What's in my kit Part 2! " First Steps of colour."

Hi pretties!

Welcome back to what’s in my kit, Part 2! So you’ve now got the insight on how to create a flawless blank canvas to work on now it’s about adding the first steps of colour. Below you will find what works for me in my kit and from that I hope it will help give you all an idea on what may be helpful personally for yourself or for in your kit.

When it comes to foundation there’s so many on the market it can be difficult to choose what will work, the best way to eliminate any confusion of yourself is to stick with one brand and work from there. I choose to work with MAC Cosmetics as they have an array of foundation colours and styles. From light to full coverage and anything in between you will always find what you need with MAC.

Matchmaster is great as it comes in shades 1.0 right through to 9.5 giving you a range of colours but not being too warm or too cool so a great all-rounder. This foundation actually customises itself to your skin tone which is perfect for those of us who are in between shades or if you have a client who has had a spray tan prior which quite often is the case. You can do this safely without the worry of oxidisation when it comes to this product.

With a buildable medium coverage that helps to minimize the appearance of pores and imperfections I find it’s great for weddings, as with the harsh flash photography you need a bit more coverage to have a flawless finish whilst still looking natural.

Face + Body is a light weight buildable foundation great for those who want something a little more than BB cream but not as heavy as Matchmaster. It comes in a range of colours in which I like to use to blend if there is any colour difference from spray tanning through the neck or to help cover up tattoos or imperfections.
I like to transfer my Face and body foundations into these smaller MAC travel containers for convenience.

This is great for if you have a junior bridesmaid when on job that you need to slightly even out the skin tone of for photos, as it will appear nice, natural and radiant. For every day wear I love this product as its super quick and easy to apply but it still gives the confidence of having a product on the skin.

Quite often I even like to use this as tan on my legs especially if the weather is rainy and miserable outside as it doesn’t move at all once dry and never transfers to my clothing BONUS!

Studio fix is great for those who love a full coverage. This product is easily applied and blends nicely to help minimize the appearance of imperfections, pores and helps to keep any shine at bay for those with a more oily skin.

I love that the finish of this foundation is so smooth and flawless looking but at the same time it is comfortable to wear on the skin which is important when wearing on a daily basis, some fuller coverage foundations can feel heavy and greasy which can be very uncomfortable. I think a lot of girls are scared to try a full coverage foundation as they are put off that it may appear to look like a “mask”.

This isn’t the case at all I find it’s all in the application of the product, you can always sheer a product out if need be. Studio fix is great for those with redness, acne scars and pigmentation as it brings confidence to the wearer knowing that with one layer it will stay put all day and achieve all expectations.
                                                    MAC Studio Finish Concealers.

Concealing is really important. I like to use a lighter concealer such as Benefit Fake up or MAC mineralize concealer around the eyes. This is because using heavy products around the eye can age you quicker with the skin being so thin and delicate. I find the above products with a little of MAC Prep + Prime highlight pen (in either radiant rose or light boost) diffuse any darkness from the eye flawlessly.

For Concealing blemishes on the face I like to use MAC Prolongwear concealer or MAC Studio finish Concealers. These are both great versatile products which stay on really well when layered on top of your foundation.

They can help add coverage to your look but most of all cover any blemishes evenly without caking. Another great product is the MAC correct and conceal palette this is perfect for an all in one convenience so I highly recommend this for those starting out in building their kit.

When it comes to talking about powders I like to have MAC mineralize Skin finish in all shades on hand for setting any of the above foundations. Although a natural matte finish this product doesn’t change the colour of the foundation underneath which can sometimes happen when using a powder colour that is too warm or cool. This is also great for touching up as it won’t cake or look to drying on the face no matter how often you choose to reapply.

MAC mineralize loose powders and MAC Studio Fix powder are in my kit for those who still choose to have more coverage added in which these provide a truly flawless look. Particularly In the studio fix powder I choose more neutrally balanced shades such as n3, n4, n5etc as I find these better when adding to a base colour that already matches perfectly.

Contouring, Bronzing and highlighting products I think are really important and can make or break your look. I choose to apply a more naturally blended contour to my clients and myself as I like it too look like it was always there, it’s just being ever so slightly enhanced.
Some of my Go to Highlight and Bronzing products

When it comes to contouring I use matte toned bronzes such as MAC blot powder in deep dark, MAC Blusher in Harmony , Nars Laguna and Too faced chocolate soleil bronzer. I like to bronze in the shape of a 3 on the outer of my face. I do this normally by using a soft colour like MAC matte bronze focusing on the temple, jawline and cheekbone areas.

To create more definition I use my Nars laguna bronzer or a similar product to contour in and enhance my bone structure. I then blend out with my xoBeauty small tapered face brush as it is dense and great for dispersing product placement.

My go to highlighting powder products would be MAC Soft and Gentle, MAC lightscapade and The Balm Mary Loumanizer. When highlighting it is important to remember you want to bring forward areas that light naturally hits. These areas are generally slightly above the cheekbone, above the top of the lip on the cupid’s bow and some like to apply a little to the inner corner of the eye.

It can be tempting to overdo it with these powders but you really only need the tiniest amount of product before you go to crazy and end up looking like tin man. I like to use my MAC 205 fan brush and my MAC 187 duo fibre brush to achieve a soft natural look.

You can also highlight and contour with cream products when I do this I use MAC studio finish concealers (otherwise known as full coverage foundation at MAC Pro stores) or MAC mineralize concealers. I like these particular products as I want something that is easily blended out with my 217 brush and gives a natural finish.

When it comes to adding your first pop of real colour on the cheeks it can be hard deciding what blush colours to have in your kit as you never know which skin tone you are going to come across. The best way to have this covered is to have a mixture of tones so then you will never get stuck in the mud.

Top to bottom MAC Dainty, Fleur Power and Desert Rose Blushers

I have a mixture of pink toned hues such as MAC Dainty and Desert rose, corals/peach with the likes of Peaches, Melba and Springsheen coming to mind and then also a couple of deeper tones like MAC Plum foolery are useful. It is also important to have both matte and shimmers remembering on a more mature skin matte tones are best suited.

Top to Bottom : MAC Springsheen,Peaches and Melba Blushers.

My ultimate favourite blush colour that has suited every skin tone I’ve come across so is MAC fleur power. I first fell in love with this when MAC sent me to training in Sydney. Our trainer Julius was obsessed with this and showed how versatile it can be, from then it has been my go to blush colour.
Invest in this colour now, that’s if you haven’t already!

Never be afraid when it comes to trying colour, too often we can all be guilty of being stuck In our ways so have fun and remember makeup can always been taken off. Introduce a more obvious blush colour into your makeup routine to give you a nice rosey glow or define those cheeks a little bit more,

Makeup is fun and exciting and if you don’t try things you’ll never know what your missing out on.

My next segment of What’s in my kit is “Standing out” Where I will go through the products I like to use to complete your look. From framing your face with your Brows, to being ready for a night out adding that last touch of setting powder.

Have a beautiful day..
