♥ Q&A With Lisa Allen ♥

This Week's Q&A is with a flawless Artist whose work I follow very closely on a daily basis. When it comes to gaining inspiration for my personal work I prefer to get it from other Artists rather than the likes of a magazine cover that has been fully edited.

" I like to see the Raw footage, where every inch of perfect blending can be seen so to speak."

Lisa Allen is an extremely  talented Makeup Artist with over 15years industry experience her adventure began in her hometown of London and has since swept her away to the dreamy sandy beaches of Phuket, Thailand where she now resides.

One thing that has always grabbed my attention with Lisa is her technique and polished looks she creates with Airbrushing. This being something I would love to get into more  myself I always find it such a fascinating aspect of being a makeup artist.

One particular look that stands out to me is one Lisa created on the ever so stunning
Rita Ora. The essence captured in the image of this makeup is one of such pure elegance, whilst looking so flawlessly feminine.

“ I love my job, I live for my job, Im greatful to have a career doing exactly what I love to do – Lisa Ellen "

So Lisa you really are quite the amazing artist , I think we would all love to know how your journey in cosmetics started and what you did to become the well-known artist you are today?

"Thank you very much!
I studied Drama & Art and secretly wanted to be a make-up artist when I was much younger but ended up pursuing another career in the meantime.

It was when I was working for the B.B.C that I passed the lottery studio and peaked inside to see who was in for the show.  It was Celine Dion & the Bee Gees.  I got talking to their make-up artist about becoming one myself.

I was totally inspired.  I walked back to my office quit my current job and used my deposit for a house to pay for a professional hair & make up course in London and the rest is history!"

Getting to glam up celebrities and other gorgeous beauties must be very exciting for you ! What process do you go through to determine what look they will walk away with?

-Take Rita ora for example your work on her was absolutely beautiful..

"Thanks again, Rita was a breeze to work with, very easy going and that face, very easy to work with!

Normally I find out about the client if I don't know too much about them, I research their current style and then create a palette of my own.  Sometimes the client has ideas of the project and look that is required.  I work closely with the stylist too."

From the UK to now living in Phuket this must be amazing,do you find the culture reflects any trends when it comes to the makeup industry there?

"Yes living in Thailand is great, I love it here.

As an artist I'm really lucky to have many different faces available to work with here.  Yes there are different trends and looks for the Asian market.  I'm still learning everyday!"

For artists like myself and of course makeup obsessed ladies who are always looking for something new to try, what would you recommend as must have items?

A good skin care regime that you religiously follow day and night - doesn't have to be expensive but kind to the skin

BB cream with SPF - A must for all climates and great for covering up imperfections, I love BB!

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream - A fantastic lifesaver which doubles as a lip gloss
Tweezer Man Tweezers - I can't live without these!

A good eye primer such as the Urban Decay range, I highly recommend their Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original

I love the new MAC Oval 6 brush, I use this on my clients for foundation, I can't live without this!

Haute & Naughty Too Black Mascara by MAC - I love the double brush, it easy to use on your bottom lashes

What would be the most memorable experience you have had within your career?

There's been so many, every job brings something different and exciting to the table.

"One of my memorable experience was when Snoop Lion (Dog) said I was looking mighty fine that day!
That made me laugh, well it actually made my day!'

If you could create a look out of 5 particular products what would they be and why?

My look would be a clean vintage 50's glam, think Dita Von Teese
Primer - to prep the skin
Foundation
Red Lipstick (can be used also for a little cream blush!)
Black Eye Liner
Black Mascara

Where do you see your career taking you next, do you think a stop off in New Zealand would be on the cards?
Yes for sure I will be back in New Zealand in the next few years, I have friends there and I'm a lover of Skiing & Snowboarding in Queenstown.

It would be great to have the opportunity to work with some photographers or artist based in NZ too. I think I will be working a little more in Europe but be based in Asia.  Paris fashion week is looking like a possibilty in September 2014."

Thank you so much for your time Lisa it has been a pleasure speaking with you.
I’m sure the followers of Painted Lips will be itching to put your words into action when they next have a brush in their hand.

-Do you have any last words for us all?

"You're so welcome my lovely, thank you for asking x"

"There are no rules in creating make up, be true to yourself, enjoy life and manners cost nothing!"
