When it comes to foundation, you always have this image in your mind of exactly what you want, you picture yourself looking flawless and then your left feeling in the dark as you glance around feeling overwhelmed by the endless options surrounding you.
I know this feeling from two angles, as an artist on counter, it is our job to do the best we can to find your perfect match. There's nothing more intimidating than taking off your full face to expose your bare skin in the middle of a department store, so my solution was to always discuss before you take a seat, that way you can learn about the product and explain specifically what it really is you are after.
And secondly as a customer, I feel your pain I have been obsessed with cosmetics well before I became a MUA I would even say since my early teens, and there is nothing more daunting than having 1000 different options shoved in your face and making a rash decision on one just to escape out of there. So below I have included my personal tips on finding your foundation soulmate.
Tips for finding your perfect match!
♥ Research, look online at other blogs, brands websites and swatches as to what works for others who have a similar skintone or skintype to yourself.Read Reviews and look at ratings.
♥ Use Findation.com to give you an idea on which shade you could possibly be, this site is amazing and perfect if you decide to purchase online. Simply enter in your current foundation shades where prompted and Voila a list of perfect companions will appear for you to browse over.
♥ Go instore and get colour matched, wear it for the day!. I would always encourage my clients to pop some on and walk around then come back and see me.This way there's no pressure involved and you can actually see if it will oxidise or move in the time your left to wander at your desire.
♥ Check the Ingredients, if you tend to have sensitive skin! Organic products or those of a more natural base are a good option to consider.
♥ Work within your budget, foundation can be pricey these days, and I know we all want the best, but within every range there will be their own superstar product. L'Oreal, Revlon and Maybelline have some great options.
♥ Avoid buying from unknown sellers or websites online, being a huge online shopper myself I will never buy from any website that isn't authentic or an approved seller of the product I'm after.
Let me explain a little more....This is because there are a lot of internet cowboys around looking to make a quick buck, resulting in the unaware consumer purchasing a dangerous replica product, for ofcourse a price you think is the best deal of the century. So below I will post links to some of my favourite sites to shop online so you can be a smart, safe, savvy online shopper :)

So what are my Top 6 personal go to's?
Left to Right
Stila Stay All Day In Light 3 this is my Summer shade as I gain alot of colour.
Estee Lauder Doublewear in shade 1w1 Bone
Rimmel Match Perfection 101 Classic Ivory
NARS Sheer Glow Light 4 Deauville
MAC Matchmaster Shade 1.0
MAC Studio Fix Fluid NC20
MAC have always produced a true to their word range when it comes to coverage and performance of their foundations.I wore Studio Fix Fluid for 6 years of my life and loved every minute of it. The only thing that I didn't always like was in Summer time I would be a warmer tone, therefore I would switch to NW (a pinker based shade). I found it tended to oxidise on me a little to quick for my liking.

MAC Matchmaster : has been one that I have used in my kit for a while now. The buildable medium coverage makes for a silky flawless finish and is one, that every single one of my clients has loved wearing for their big day.I love that it adjusts to your colouring and is more neutral based when it comes to undertones.
Rating : 9/10
NARS Sheer Glow : I really do like this foundation as it blends on like a dream, but sometimes I feel like it doesn't stay put aswell as some of my other choices do. The coverage is buildable and the colour range is extensive. When it comes to repurchasing next time I may try the Matte version to see if it copes better with my oily skintype.
Rating : 8/10
Rimmel Match Perfection : A great drugstore alternative, with a really nice finish and flawless coverage. This foundation did move quite a bit on me and started to feel a little greasy on my skin as the day progressed, no matter what primer I used. I put this down to my skin being quite oily through the T-Zone and my fussiness on my foundation staying as perfect as it can all day.
Rating 7/10
Estee Lauder Double Wear : Although I did dabble in this years ago, on a recent trip to America I repurchased and will continue to do so. Double wear is quite heavy so I like to wear it when I'm heading off on location for a freelance job, or simply heading out for the night. It stays put and comes in a range of colours, to suit even the palest of tones. It leaves you looking flawless when paired with complimenting products.
Rating 9.5/10
Stila Stay All Day : I purchased my first bottle in September of 2013 and have only just had to re purchase my second bottle. I like that this foundation has a concealer in the top of the lid as the coverage of that in itself was enough to sell me on this product. This duo will be your best friend when travelling. This foundation really is beautiful and I am a huge fan! The coverage is flawless and it sits perfectly on top of all my go to primers. If your a lover of a flawless base then definitely give this a try.
