♥ Trend Talk Autumn/Winter 2014 ♥

It has certainly started to get a tad chilly here in the southern hemisphere as we have slowly worked our way into Autumn. As a lover of all things colour I refuse to ever let a dull, rainy or in some cases snowy day get the better of me you can guarantee I will still have that bright pout on even when its -5 degrees.

Because you have all already heard what my winter must haves will be I decided to pull on board a few of my makeup gal pals for this post. They are all from different aspects of
the beauty industry so I thought it would be great if they could share with you what's in their bag of tricks to maintain their glam status this season.

Let me give you a quick wee run down on who these three bright beauties are..

First up in the hot seat is Kirsty Leigh, this gem is the founder of one of my guilty pleasures, a Facebook group and Blog rightfully named Makeup Obsessives. Kirsty is a MUA and like myself has worked on counter for MAC. Basically she is my MAC sister from a different MR! I highly recommend you head on over and join the group but be warned your bank account will not be looking so healthy afterwards, trust me I know from experience.

We then have the beautiful Shannon Harris or as you may know her Shaaanxo. She has well and truly earned her spot within the industry and is an ever growing success. To me Shan will always be Shan that girl I chat to often about all things beauty, and of late we have both become custom made storage design queens in honour of finding that perfect home for our much loved items. Cosmetic hoarders alike her passion for colour shows both inside and out.

And last but not least my oh so beautiful MUA bestie all the way from Gisborne Arlene Crispin.Arlene and I met through Kirsty's group MUO and our friendship has grown into an amazing makeup loving sisterhood. Arlene is such a talented artist who is one to have your eye on when a brush is in her hand, in which I'm sure all of her past clients would have to agree.

So get ready to make your product wishlist's as these heroines let you in on their secrets.

Nurture your skin.. The colder months really take their toll on my skin, which is fairly dry at the best of times. In winter I like to use more hydrating products to make sure I don't end up with a monster face: cream based cleansers, gentle toners and a good facial oil mixed into my moisturiser. I'm currently using the Trilogy Skincare range, and I swear by it - especially the Trilogy Rosehip Oil Antioxidant+.

A wee tip I learned the other day - to make your oil last longer and your moisturiser more effective, mix one drop in with your moisturiser. It saves time AND money.. Bonus!! I'll also be treating my skin once or twice a week with a fresh face mask from Lush -heaven. Find a lip balm and make it your vice.. Chapped lips are just so bad on so many levels. That sounds kind of superficial, and like a first world problem, but seriously. If my lips are dry and peeling, then I'm just not happy about it ..fair?

So the obvious solution to this is to get addicted to lipbalm. The great news is that majority of lipbalms are inexpensive,so I'm bound to always have a few rattling around in my bag. My current faves are Hurraw (particularly Chocolate Balm and Pitta Balm) and Nivea Lip Butter.

If I slather my lips in either of these before bed, I swear I can still feel them on my lips when I wake up - perfectly primed for lipstick application. Happy Kirk. Find a perfume that makes you feel happy.. It's a fairly well known fact that people can get a little bit down in the cooler months. There are a multitude of ways to combat this, but because this is a beauty blog and I'm allowed to be frivolous- I'm going to recommend you find yourself a fragrance that lifts your mood. Ones that contains crisp, citrus notes are sure to make you feel brighter, and if the dry down is one of vanilla or musk... well that's just plain cosiness right there.

My latest discovery is Karl Lagerfield For Her, which was launched just this month. It's so crisp and pretty that it smells sparkly - if that's a thing. Immediate mood booster. Experiment with a bolder lip.. You really only need to have a quick flick through a magazine, or browse beauty sites online to see that a dark lips is trending right now. The likes of Rihanna and Lorde are really influencing what we'll be leaning towards this winter, and I am all for it. I'm usually terrified of dark lips, and believe me -I still am. But you can start slow- with a stain or gloss then work your way up to something like Vamp from Blush Baby as I have personally.

Make sure you use the right shade of liner first though, a bolder lip is a little more maintenance and you want it to stay on your lips - not half way down your chin. Make your skin glow.. Normally I opt for a matte foundation finish during Autumn and Winter.. I don't even know why, it was just a thing. This year I'm going to mix it up a little and be all about the glow. There are so many products you could choose if you were thinking about doing this too, whether it's a dewy finish foundation, highlighter or a powder.

I've decided on the Brightening Finishing Powder from Bobbi Brown, which is designed to be lightly dusted all over the face. I'm also thinking REALLY hard about investing in NARS Sheer Glow Foundation - I tried it and love it SO much, I'll probably get it, to be honest. Because winter is cold and nice makeup makes me feel happy

For Autumn and Winter I am Loving dark or bright lips. Normally I would save a bright fuchsia lip for summer or spring, but pairing this lip with a neutral matte eyeshadow also makes for a fun winter look to instantly lift your mood.

I quite enjoy breaking the rules during these months, and love a dewy look featuring super highlighted skin. I keep it winter appropriate by wearing matte, neutral or berry shades on the eyes. Dark Red, Burgundy and Purple lipsticks will be spotted on my lips as expected during this time of year. You can never go wrong with a bit of MAC Rebel.

I love super hydrating products around this time of the year too, so as the weather starts to get cooler most of us will need to take care of our skin which will keep our makeup looking great on top! I am incorporating more Jojoba oil into my skincare routine, as well as Rosehip Oil for lots of moisture. Before applying your makeup, make sure you prep your skin with a moisturiser and a primer to hydrate the skin in which will create the perfect canvas.

I'm loving Bare Minerals Prime Time and Stila One Step Correct - both are great primers that also hydrate my skin. This will help with the application of any makeup going on top ensuring it looks amazing , even if you decide to go for a matte finish.

Same goes for the lips, my must have lip balm right now is Hurraw. It is vegan, raw and natural. It hydrates my lips like no other! Perfect for preparing for a matte lip - which is so on trend for Autumn. I'm currently loving Lime Crime Velvetines (from paganmarienz.), Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks, Chi Chi Creamy Matte Liquid Lipsticks and Melt Lipsticks!

With the colder weather  approaching, I feel my makeup trends changing. From a bright lip to becoming a more dark refined beauty. I will be showing my inner vamp this winter that's for sure. Some of my favourite products that will remain by my side will be MAC Rebel, Violetta and Heroine with Drive by Lush also making an appearance.

I'm quite a fan of purple lips, and when Radiant Orchid was announced as colour of the year I was thrilled. If You're thinking, "I Couldn't pull that off ", your in luck! There are so many shade variations that can fall under the Radiant Orchid umbrella which makes it very versatile. (ie, Lavender, purple, pink, wine, plum).I'm getting amongst this trend like no other, and you should too!

Just a couple of things heading into the cooler months - Be conscious of your skin's needs with the change of seasons. My skin goes into overdrive, from oily to dry my products go from one extreme to the other. Lotions to heavy duty creams and even cream cleansers, this isn't the only change as my tan is something that starts to fade *sigh. Even though this means I have to slightly drop in shades when it comes to foundations it also means I can switch up into a heavier coverage.

This is because I tend to live in BB creams/tinted moisturisers in Summer as they are easier to manage and are lighter on the skin, where as I find fuller coverage is more wearable/beneficial in the cooler weather.

Finally, don't be afraid to play around with colour. The beauty of makeup is that it's an art and there are no rules. Experiment and find what works for you. Embrace yourself.

Thankyou Ladies for joining me on today's post I think it's great to have more than one option for the changeover of seasons, as it can be very daunting for some when it comes to rocking that statement lip with confidence.

I hope you have all enjoyed this post and I would love to hear what your personal trends will be for Autumn/Winter 2014,
