Hey beauties!
I’m back all the way from the USA with an exciting product review for you all!
The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette ($58 USD) is one of my latest purchases. I’ve been eyeing this palette for some time now but could never justify the high price tag for something I couldn’t even go in stores to test out because it’s an online only exclusive!
As a previous limited edition palette, Hourglass decided to bring it back making keeping it out of my collection even harder. I finally bit the bullet after receiving a Sephora gift card for my recent birthday and placed an order for this beautiful piece of makeup goodness. I must say that I am oh so glad that I did.
The Ambient Lighting Palette is marketed as a “groundbreaking collection of finishing powders that capture, diffuse, and soften the way light reflects on skin.” Compared to other powders that are used to cloak imperfections, the Ambient Lighting Powders are beautiful powders meant to mimic different flattering lighting situations on the face.
Swatches L-R Radiant Light, Incandescent light and Dim light
They really look like they soften the skin from within giving the most beautiful finish to the skin. With a regular sized Ambient Lighting Powder (.35 oz) coming in at $45 USD, the slightly smaller size of these powders for $58 USD is a really good price any excuse to try out different colors without the high price tag. This palette can be a little daunting at first because there aren’t any specific instructions on how to use the three powders in the palette. I’ll explain about the colors and how I use them in my everyday makeup routine.
The Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette comes with 3 shades: Dim Light, Incandescent Light, and Radiant Light. Dim Light is a light powder free of shimmer or shine. As a very fair girl myself, I use Dim Light as an all-over finishing powder really focusing it on my T-zone. Even for those darker than me, this powder is a beautiful finishing powder and gives a soft focus effect to the face.
At first, its effects are hard to see, but when you look closely at yourself or take a photograph, you can really see the amazing effect it has on the skin. Incandescent Light is the second powder in the palette. This powder is lighter than Dim Light and has finely milled shimmer throughout it. This is a beautiful natural highlight and that’s exactly how I use this powder. I dust it on the top of my cheek bones, cupids bow, and the bridge of my nose and it really gives a “lit from within” effect.
The last powder in the palette is “Radiant Light” and it is definitely the powder that I have been most confused on how to use. Not quite bronze but not light enough to use as a setting powder, this powder is a beautiful shimmery caramel color. I use this on days where I want to skip bronzer as a light bronzer itself. I dust it all over and under my cheek bones and it gives a beautiful soft gleam to my face. For those darker then myself, this would be an amazing bronzey highlight.
Overall, the Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette has performed above my expectations and I am so happy that I splurged. Free of parabens, talc, gluten, and fragrance, this is a must have palette for any makeup lovers collection and will work with any skin types or tones. I will, of course, keep trialing this exquisite little palette to find other unique ways to use the three powders.
Do any of you have the Ambient Lighting Palette? Let me know how you use the powders below!
Stay beautiful
