When the opportunity to be sent on training for MAC in Sydney was presented to me you can only imagine my excitement. I had a lot of thoughts running through my mind of what to expect, the pressure of making sure I looked immaculate and polished everyday and of course being sure I kept to the MAC way. My excitement went a little overboard when it was announced we would be trained by a Senior trainer from Cancun Mexico.
The first day of training I was greeted by smiling friendly faces of my fellow Australian Artists and then of course the most beautiful human being I think I have ever seen approached to introduce himself. Julius glows from ear to ear and oozes MAC from within. His structured defined cheekbones catch you in a trance as you try to pull yourself away from his flawless canvas.
For a whole week I was privileged enough to work and learn alongside Julius and a dozen of other super talented artists and MAC head office team members. Bouncing off each other was where I gained a lot of new techniques and inspiration to improve my own ways of makeup application. But when you are working for one of the most amazing brands in the world it's hard not to want to improve through the extreme passion you gain.
When it came to demo time I was happier than anything to be the face for Julius to work his magic on. I think it's really important to also feel and gage how much weight you put behind your brush when working on a client, it's safe to say I could have easily fallen asleep with his delicate precise touch.
I feel really lucky to have been mentored by someone like Julius and especially for such an amazing brand, his one on one time was key to my advancement and I do honestly believe if it wasn't for his support and positivity in my work I wouldn't be as confident as the Artist I am today.
Seeing Julius work on all types of fashion shows all over the world, especially New York ,plus knowing he started as an artist like myself on counter in Nordstrom gives me hope and aspiration that one day if I continue to pursue my dreams I could possibly be there myself.
So without further ado I would like you all to meet the Fleur power of my makeup world Julius Eckensberger...
Your career spans from strength to strength with opportunity's great enough to make any artist weak in the knees, what would be the highlight of your career?
My
first time participating in NY Fashion Week. It
was a goal of mine since I was 18. My
initial dream was to participate as a fashion designer as this was my area of
study at University. Later, after
choosing makeup as a career path I realized I didn’t have to give up my dream
of being apart of Fashion Week after all.
Now I'm sure you have a few but share with us your top 5 MAC must haves GO...

Do you see any particular trends coming through for 2014, after all being an artist backstage at the latest shows I'm sure you know a little inside info...
We
will be seeing a return to blush! I am a
blush addict. There is no better way to
pep up your face than by adding a pop of color on your cheeks.
If your career were to relocate you to any city or country where would you love to live?
Two
of my favourite cities I have visited over the years where I can see myself
living would have to be Medellin Columbia and Sydney. Within minutes of being in these two cities, I
felt right at home.
What do you find the best part about being a MAC trainer ?
The best part about being a trainer is seeing the growth of the artists I teach and being given the opportunity to share my experience and knowledge with others.
What products do you use to ensure a flawless base ?
I love to mix Mineralize Moisture Gel and Fix+ in my hand and massage it over the face and neck (of course not on counter LOL) then I apply a thin layer of Pep + Prime Skin Smoother.
I then apply my new fav foundation combo, ProLongwear concealer mixed with Face and Body mixing Medium. To set I love just a touch of Pep & Prime Translucent Finishing Powder but only applied in the T zone.
Which of your Fellow MAC Artists inspire you the most ?
I'm inspired by all of the artists who I work with in store and backstage, who constantly strive to be better, learn more, create and inspire their co-workers and customers.
Being one of the most knowledgeable sources I've ever met I know everyone would love for you to share any tips you may have with us..
When
in doubt, less is more
Apply
foundation and/or concealer only where needed.
Curl
lashes when you want a quick pick me up
Add
a coral or pink blush to the apples of your cheeks for a healthy glow.
Mix
and play with textures, Don’t be afraid
to experiment when mixing products!
Thank you for your time Julius I know you have been so busy with having just returned recently from NY fashion week and I can only imagine how much your Pug babies have missed you!
Any last words of wisdom before you head back to your colourful world?
